There are certain seasons of the year that work better to organize different parts of the home. Spring and Summer are such a great times to tackled garages and storage rooms.
Ahhh, Summer!! Flowers thriving, trees growing, sunshine hitting your face, warm air rolling in. Guess what? This is perfect weather for pulling out every thing you dumped in The garage over the winter. Utilize that driveway space and yard space to sort and create “zones”, as us organizers like to call them, to see what you have and what you can get rid of.
Why organize garages in the summer?
- A new school year is about to start and you will back to the routines soon.
- Because it will help you get a space that is commonly used back in order and allow you to get rid of unnecessarily items that have been tossed and stored in here for months.

There are lots of ways garages can be utilized besides for cars and lawn equipment.
To help give you some ideas on what to do to spruce up your garage, here are a few options:
- If space allows, create a backpack and drop zone in the corner.
- Create and outdoor recycling station for your family to all enjoy.
- Paint a wall or two to spruce up the look and feel!
- Create a FUN zone or toy zone with all outdoor toys, chalk, bikes and water equipment in the same zone.
Garages are some of my favorite spaces to organize. They are the dirtiest and often have the most random items in them. I know atleast for my family, the garage becomes a catch-all for all the random things you don’t take the extra time to put away.

Creating systems (with labels) will allow you to get it back to being organized eventually. Labels are always like the cherry on the sundae, the final step to make sure the job is complete.
Here is a quick peek of my garage. It’s not finished yet, but I will show you what I am doing.

I ended up thinking a quart of black paint would cover the back wall. Boy, was I wrong! The walls absorbed SO much paint, it was crazy. It’s like they were super dehydrated and the black paint just soaked in immediately.

Anyways, the garage organizing job in my new house is not done yet but I will get you all posted!
Until then, enjoy some more garage photos!
